The New International Bookshop (NIBS) stocks a wide range of leftist and activist books, magazines and merchandise. NIBS also organises events where local, interstate and international speakers address important topics of the left. NIBS commands strong support from activists throughout Victoria and our shop is located at Victorian Trades Hall (cnr. Victoria and Lygon St., Carlton).
Currently, NIBS is looking to fill the role of Volunteer Bookkeeper.
This is a part-time role, involving around 2-3 hours per week and encompasses:
- Recording all income and expenditure (including cash and EFT transactions);
- Recording all purchases from our suppliers and payment of invoices from these suppliers;
- Processing payroll (for a single employee) including PAYG taxation and superannuation;
- Working with our auditors to provide annual audits of our accounts.
The role does NOT require a qualified accountant or even a qualified Bookkeeper, merely someone who enjoys working with figures. Ideally, our Volunteer Bookkeeper would have some experience with the MYOB small business accounting package – we use MYOB Accounts Right – but MYOB operates very intuitively and is very easy for non-accountants to pick up. Extensive training will be provided to ensure a seamless transition into the role.
